Professional Master Programmes

In response to demands, the Department of Geology, Obafemi Awolowo University has added five new 12-month Master of Science Degree Programmes to its existing curriculum. They are designed to provide full training in integrated subjects to equip the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a wide range of technical functions in their related industry.

Master in Petroleum Geosciences
Master in Petroleum Geophysics
Master in Petroleum Geochemistry
Master in Mineral Exploration
Master in Groundwater and Environmental Geosciences

These are intensive programmes with curriculum that is designed to enhance the academic, business and leadership skills with integrated soft-skill development in interpersonal relations, oral and written communication, public speaking and negotiation. These courses will include lectures, practicals, field work, group projects as well as a three-month internship.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The requirements for admission into the M.Sc. programmes at OAU are stated in the Obafemi Awolowo University Regulations Governing Graduate Studies (2005). An applicant for admission to the M. Sc. degree programme must be a graduate of any approved university or hold a recognized qualification approved by the Senate of the University. The person should possess not lower than a Second Class, Lower Division Honours to be eligible for admission. The applicant must also have a NYSC discharge certificate and be able to provided three references. There is limited space available for these programmes therefore graduate positions are competitive.

CONDITIONS FOR DEGREE CONFERMENT
Candidates shall fulfill the course work and examination requirements as stated in the Obafemi Awolowo University Regulations Governing Graduate Studies (2005) for the award of the degree of Master of Science. A unique prerequisite for the conferment of this programme is the completion of a three-month in-company internship project within an industry, government or non-governmental agency. In addition, the candidates will fulfill the following requirements for each program:
Master in Petroleum Geosciences

The candidate must pass 41 credit units, comprising 34 units core courses, 3 units of elective and 4 units of an independent project. For further details contact the coordinators for the the program

TUITION
The tuition fee for the twelve-month Master Degree programmes is N1,000,000.00 (one million naira) per student. The fee covers the cost of instruction, instructional materials, fieldwork for a minimum of 16 days and computer time but does not include lodging, transportation, food, textbooks or any other cost associated with personal upkeep.
